vectorcam is a modern 2D/3D CNC-Programming system. The intuitive interface gets you going within minutes. The modular software garantees a price which matches your requirements. vectorcam is optimised for Drilling, Lathe, Laser Cutting and Wire EDM. Fast routines are available for 4 and 5 axis milling as well as several hundred postprocessors for your machines.


For each geometrical shape (2D contour, 3D model or free-form surfaces) vectorcam offers a suitable NC-Feature. These are a lot of milling and drilling operations: fillet, plane, facing open and closed pockets with multiple islands, slots and steps and much more. Just use the function “find feature” to select a geometry and define the required CNC feature. Select the post processor and you are ready to go to the cnc machine.

Full associatively

For each CNC-process which the user defines, a job will be created in the joblist. All parameters which are entered in the job, as well as the used geometry will be stored. Each stored value can be changed again afterwards. As well as the in a job used geometry. The geometry can unlimited be changed or even be replaced completely.

This flexibility allows you to save edits, consisting of one or more jobs. Recurring similar edits can be saved as standard and re-used at any time in other files. This, it can significantly reduce the programming effort.

2,5D Machining

In this module vectorcam calculates the shortest and simplest paths for 2D geometry. Such contours can be either imported or sketched in the 2D drafting module of vectorcam. Among the many strategies are planing, contouring and engraving as well as pocketing, deburring and chamfering. All functions include automatic plunge and retract as well as approach options.

2,5D Milling with NC-Features

Many 3D products can be machined using simple 2D conventional processes. vectorcam recognizes pockets with a planar bottom, open sides, steps and it automatically omits holes which it should not drop down into. This offers you not only short programs but also a secure process which can save up to 80% of machining time.

Complex parts can be programmed easily and with little training. The automatic Feature recognition finds all 2D surfaces, showing in color the remaining complex surfaces which need 3D machining.


3D Machining

vectorcam offers a multiple of 3D machining strategies. The selected surfaces may be milled entirely, or within a boundary which you simply sketch in 2D. Neighboring surfaces may be partially included using an offset boundary. This ensures a smooth surface transition overlap.

The collission check is automatically and always switched on. Collission control may include clamps, vices, and other obstacles such as pneumatic components and stack assemblies. If the user opts to switch off the automatic collission verification many machining routines are calculated several times faster, thus saving computing time.The 3D machining functions include Z-constant roughing, Z-constant finishing. These functions offer both x parallel and contour parallel strategies, star-shape, spiral and projection paths as well as 3D engraving along a 2D projectory.


4 and 5 axis machining, indexing and continuous

Several functions are available for multi-axis machining. They include indexing for rotary tables as well as 5 axis simultaneous linear and rotary transformations. Using a special side-milling process vectorcam ensures a smooth surface for 4 axis processes as well as 5 axis simultaneous machining.
Functions include:

Programming of holes is almost fully automated. An integrated Drill-Assistant carries you step by step from centering to drilling to tapping and multi diameter holes.

Once a drill operation has been defined it can be saved and recalled for future jobs.

2D and 3D drilling

A find and match function can locate all identical holes and group them accordingly. A list of diameters and depths is then displayed. Some unique holes may be included or excluded using an on/off button. The Drilling operation is then started.

The drill assistant

The drill assistant function creates a series of steps which you will be familiar with:

“Center -> Drill -> Tap”

Any new sequence specially suited for your company may be saved and recalled. The Operator can exercise control each step and adjust depths at will. For instance additional depth can be added to a drilled hole with open bottom in order to avoid sharp burrs.

Furthermore standard Tables support you when using the Drill Wizzard. They include holes, tapped holes and holes with multiple diameters.

A dual workplane allows you to work in Lathe mode or in normal XY mode. All relevant drafting and machining processes for Lathe Operators switch to Z and X mode whereby diameter input makes sketching easy. Imported DXF sketches are instantly available in a familiar coordinate system.

Lathe functions

All operations which Lathes normally offer are available. These include roughing, finishing, planar finishing and various groove strategies. All functions automatically account for undercut compensation due to the tool tip angle.

Tables for E and F shape clearance cuts are included.

A Technology database offers various Feeds and Spindle speeds as well as cooling variables.

C-Axis and powered tools

The Lathe functions may also be combined with powered tools such as milling operations. Just rotate the axis or select the standard XY workplane and the system automatically detects the orientation of the machining proces to be vertical, horizontal or slanted.

If the imported product requires 3D machining just pick a form feature and drop the axis onto this object. Automatically all 3D machining processes will be registered and axis orientation information will be passed onto the postprocessor.

Several cutting strategies are available in a dedicated menu. These include functions for Plasma, Wire EDM, Waterjet cutting, Laser and Routers. Some special optional processes are able to fully automate approach, short stops (glue stops) Clockwise and Counterclockwise options and other commands such as left to right, up down strategies.

A simple nesting routine informs the operator of number of parts, margins and size of a sheet metal stock. For strip-fed machining the inner contour can be fully cut and the outer contours can be left connected to the strip so that only waste is dropped whilst parts remain attached to the feeder.

Laser cutting, Waterjet and Routing
Laser and other flat cutting processes can be fully automated using special Auto-Laser and contouring technology tables.

All relevant data dedicated to a specific contour name or depth can be used to control feed, cutting data or depth. Small contours may need a slower feed in order to avoid overshoot when cutting small holes. Higher feed rates can be attached to long contours.


2-/4-axis wire EDM

With the wire-EDM module the vector user creates NC-programs for 2-/4axis machining. Efficient processing routines guarantee a short programming time and high reliability. For 2D or 4D contours vectorcam generated roughing cuts and finishing cuts for stamps or matrix.

The basis for any NC-programming is the workpiece geometry. The workpiece geometry can be a 2D contour or a 3D model.

Workpiece geometries are either imported into vectorcam by using interfaces or they are in the CAD field constructed.
